Response to Today's Discussion

Today, we had an amazing discussion about interracial couple, gay couples, and society's perception of such. I know we mentioned the idea of how much family plays in how we date and our perspective on life. I completely agree, if grandmothers,.grandfathers, sisters, brothers, moms, and dads keep telling their children that they can not date outside of  his or her race then they are upholding very minute racist ideas. The only way we can combat racism and the idea of sticking with one's own race we need to let individuals be free and let people date whomever they like. This goes for sexuality as well.  I think we look too much and too far in the differences of others only to validate our own lives. We do such things to look for the wrong in some so that we can become right. We must look to free all oppressed people. As Frances Beale says "A revolutionary has the responsibility not only of topping those that are now in a position of power, but of creating new institutions that will eliminate all forms of oppression."  It is not just the job of activist organizations, civic organizations, and politicians to make decisions, write polices, and vote to help remove the chains of oppression, as individuals who live their own personal lives we must start with our own connections, own own networks, families, jobs and choices to teach and free those who are oppressed.
